Statistics: Alcohol related deaths in the UK

There are thousands of deaths a year that are a direct result of alcohol.  They are defined under the following headings:

Internation classification of diseases (up to 2001)
Alcoholis psychoses Alcohol dependence syndrome
Non-dependent abuse of alcohol Alcoholic cardiomyopathy
Chronic liver disease and cirrhosis Accidental poisoning by alcohol

Internation classification of diseases (from 2001)
Mental and behavioural disorders due to use of alcohol Alcoholic polyneuropathy
Degeneration of nervous system due to alcohol Alcoholic cardiomyopathy
Fibrosis and cirrhosis of liver (excluding biliary cirrhosis) Alcoholic gastritis
Alcohol induced chronic pancreatitis Alcohol liver disease
Accidental poisioning by and exposure to alcohol Chronic hepatitus
Intentional self-poisoning by and exposure to alcohol Poisoning by and exposure to alcohol, undetermined intent
