National Alcohol Awareness Day (NAAD)

Gin Lane, Hogarth, Beer St, NAAD, National Alcohol Awareness Day, BMAAn alternative format is proposed for 2009/10 NAAD, with the prizes remaining the same - prizes are placements in recognised world centres for the treatment of substance abuse.  Bearing in mind the successful collaboration with the BMA Medical Students Committee for the poster competition in 2008, a similar competition is proposed. On this occasion the proposal is to produce a poster which will bring Hogarth's 'Gin Lane' and/or 'Beer St' into the 21st Century.  The poster the students produce should depict the public health messages surrounding excessive alcohol consumption.

The new idea of NAAD originated following a Radio 4 programme in which a gentleman was discussing his alcohol problems. He suggested that a 'Gin Lane' picture should be produced to reflect the 21st century, hence where we got the idea.

BMA's Poster Competition

BMA poster08 picThe BMA medical students committee in 2008 joined forces with the MCA (Medical Council on Alcohol) to launch a poster design competition. Medical students were asked to design poster highlighting the dangers of binge drinking among the student population. The winning poster was displayed in medical schools across the UK to encourage students to drink in a more responsible way, as a result this was a very successful project that reflected the hard work the BMA had put into it.
