The MCA is a charity concerned with the effects of alcohol on health.  We were founded in 1967 by a group of doctors from a range of different specialities.  Our mission is to reduce alcohol related harm by improving the understanding and management of alcohol related problems.  We seek to ensure that doctors, medical students and other health professionals are aware of the risks associated with alcohol both for their patients and for their own health, and act effectively to address these.

With this in mind we produce some literature for doctors and a handbook for students.  We have also recently opened up our membership to include students.   The basic student membership is £25 a year, with the option of taking the Journal ‘Alcohol and Alcoholism for a reduced rate of £50 a year or an online rate of £15 a year.

The Student Membership includes:

·         Quarterly newsletter with articles from prominent people

·         A special yearly student newsletter, written by students for students

·         Free admittance to our Annual General Meeting and symposium, with lunch included (normal price for a student is £25-30, but does not include lunch).  This event is a CPD approved event.

·         Special concessionary rate to a number of other events, not run by the MCA (See website for more information)

Our members help to ensure that we can continue being a self funded organisation who is able to provide a series of free information to a wide range of health professions.
